History

Advanced Home and Business Systems is the culmination of Kirby Russell’s two decades of diverse experience with emerging communications technologies. In the late 1980s Mr. Russells' expertise helped interconnect the ARPanet, which was initially a research and design network for universities and government, to the rest of the world. This network is now called the Internet. In the 1990s, his technical capabilities were sought after worldwide; he became a recognized expert in network protocols, configuration, and problem solving, and his efforts lead to the development of industry-leading products we all use today at home and at work.

As an expert at custom-designed network and multimedia solutions, he implemented systems specific to the needs of large corporate clients, such as Kinko’s Corporation. By engineering new products with network protocol capabilities and managing a team of test and deployment engineers, Mr. Russell established secure Internet access for 700 Kinko’s stores within a one month period. Since that time, the network and protocol designs Mr. Russell created for Kinko’s have been integrated into all remote access network products worldwide.

Early in the new century, the changing realities of our country’s security needs helped to solidify Mr. Russells vision. Prior to this time, many companies and individuals treated surveillance as an optional form of security rather than an essential element of daily operations. Mr. Russells experience had shown him the technologies existed to integrate video, audio, telephone, data, and network connectivity to create the control systems now in demand by a wide array of individuals and companies.

Kirby Russell and his wife Sarah, who has extensive operations and management experience with network product manufacturers and global retailers such as Kinko’s Corporation, made the leap into their own business at the beginning of 2000. They began with a handful of individual clients who had an immediate need to monitor their businesses. At the same time, it became apparent no other vendor was able to meet these customers’ multimedia and telecommunications needs. Intrigued by the company’s ability to provide a broad range of integrated services, customers began to rely on Advanced Home and Business Systems’ ability to help them design, implement and maintain all of their systems.

With the intention of building industry-leading solutions combined with the ability to bring disparate systems together while allowing them to communicate, Mr. Russell created a company that offers a high level of expertise, customization, control, and integration to individuals and corporations alike.

A key members were added to the team in 2003 and 2004. Rich Mathieu, vice president of sales, came to the company from Legato Systems, where he was western regional sales manager for high-availability products.

We are not afraid of new technologies and regularly invent new products, add new capabilities to existing products, and modify packaged systems to provide our clients with the control and peace of mind they require.

Our systems are designed to achieve the appropriate balance between cost and performance; we are experts at matching a client’s needs to the right equipment and applications. Our experienced system designers assess each client’s situation, design the requisite system with the clients features and ease-of-use requirements in mind.
